Misleading ads: cheating or dumping

Times of India has a “direct to reader” space where they try and sell gadgets. In there today, I spotted this ad for a mobile phone.

voq ad

The phone, named Voq, was manufactured by Sierra Wireless. The company has since stopped making cell phones. And this model was discontinued way back in June 2005.

Have a look at the advertisement though. Leading brand of USA, who? Sierra wireless and mobile phones, I dont think so! Retails over $600 in USA? Sorry, it may have retailed for $600 when it came out in 2004. Estimated market price Rs 20000? Well, Amazon currently sells it for $120.

What do you call this? Dumping by Sierra Wireless, or TOI cheating its readers? I say both!
