RTI – Bangalore getting ready

With media uping the tempo on Right to Information (RTI), Bangalore Municipality (BMP) is getting ready to face the flood of applications for information. From Deccan Herald news item “BMP officials learn ABC of RTI act”:

“The BMP’s new RTI cell has been set up a fortnight go to centralise the deluge of applications sent to its various departments and zonal offices,” said BMP Commissioner K Jairaj, adding that a new system of indexing and cataloguing of records and storing data on microfilms and digitalising data would be introduced for easy retrieval and dissemination

Good idea Mr Jairaj. Store all records aka information digitally, and it will make everyone’s job a lot easier.

I am waiting for the day when I can go to website of any municipal body, and find all about how they shell out contract work, make payments, track expenditures and determine quality of public works and services.
